OVERVIEW

We at Smartie Pants Montessori follow the Montessori Curriculum. Each child receives individual attention.

Progress reports are given to parents every month and careful records are kept to ensure that each child is developing in all areas of his/her development.

ACTIVITIES OF EVERYDAY LIVING

Children are naturally interested in activities they have witnessed. The purpose and aim of this area is to help the child gain control in the coordination of his/her movements and help the child gain independence. This is done through the exploration of daily living materials and skills.

SENSORIAL

Sensorial comes from the words sense or senses. The child is able to concentrate on the refinement of all his/her senses, from visual to stereognostic.

The purpose and aim of Sensorial work is for the child to acquire clear, conscious, information and to be able to then make classifications in his/her environment.

Maria Montessori believed that sensorial experiences began at birth. Through the senses, the child studies his/her environment. From this, the child then begins to understand his/her environment. Maria Montessori termed this “sensorial exploring”.

MATHEMATICS

We help the child to establish a concrete understanding of quantities and numerals, which is an essential part of future learning.

LANGUAGE

Learning  language is not done through subjects as is usually done in a normal classroom - the child learns at his/her own pace. This allows the child to concentrate on the learning of each important step in language so that each progressive step is done easily. The Montessori materials also play an important role in aiding the child  to develop the powers of communication and expression, of organization and classification, and the development of thought.

Each child’s language skills are enriched. We use the phonic approach. Children learn to associate letter shapes to sounds, and from there they learn to build their own words. Reading and writing develop as a result.

CREATIVE

Painting, collage work, cutting and sticking and various artistic mediums are always available for the children to express themselves creatively.

KNOWLEDGE & UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD

This area teaches the child about the world around them.

They learn about geography, people, cultures, biology, history, nature and science. The aim is to spark the child's interest in the world around them.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

We have a well equipped playground to cater for all the child’s outdoor developmental needs. We also have weekly Pilates lessons that are done with all the children.
